DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the wonders of fynbos with FynbosLIFE at the second FynbosLIFE Fair! \nFynbos festivities will be the order of the day and a great cure for any ‘eco-anxiety’. \nEntrance: R20 Adults | 18 and under free \nBe sure to save the date\, Sunday 10 September\, and make sure you won’t miss out on the second FynbosLIFE Fair! \nFynbosLIFE Fair… what is it all about? \nCape Town is considered both the biodiversity and extinction capital of the world\, within a buzzing Cape Floristic Region (CFR) biodiversity hotspot. Found only in the CFR\, the Fynbos Biome is globally renowned for its exceptional plant species richness and endemicity. The FynbosLIFE Fair puts the spotlight on fynbos in all its forms. \nThe untoward weather the world is experiencing can no longer be ignored\, highlighting the need to reassess what is best ecologically suited in terms of what our future green spaces look like\, and locally indigenous fynbos most certainly makes sense in the Cape of Storms! \nFynbosLIFE Fair\, run on a volunteer basis\, with a well curated selection of fynbos and nature conservation organisations and fabulous fynbos artisans\, aims to give fynbos its place in the sun by showcasing its beauty\, conservation value\, versatility and variety of fynbos products. \nFynbosLIFE Fair programme: \nSpeaker Line-up \n\nDr Caitlin von Witt\, Managing Director of FynbosLIFE\, will speak about FynbosLIFE\, fynbos propagation and restoration\, and her team members will give insight on FynbosLIFE projects KURUfynbos\, BoSSIES\, FUNDAfynbos and the retail Cape Flats Fynbos Nursery\nProf. Nox Makunga\, Dept of Botany and Zoology\, Stellenbosch University\, Group leader – Medicinal plant biology / Medicinal plant research\, will speak about her research and work on fynbos in medicine\nTracey Bodington of ‘Mini Mo Shows’ will enchant both kids and adults with fynbos snakes\nProf. Muthama Muasya\, Keeper\, Bolus Herbarium\, Dept of Biological Sciences\, University of Cape Town\, will talk on fynbos graminoids\nDr Jannes Landschoff\, Sea Change Project Leader\, will talk about their 1001 Seaforest Species project\nProf. Kirsty Carden\, UCT Future Water Institute\, will talk on urban wetlands and water resilient cities\nAndy Jamieson\, permaculture designer & consultant\, maker of natural pools and living systems\, will share his experience on creating natural pools\n\nFilm Screening \n‘Older Than Trees’ a short film produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker and freelance conservation journalist Pippa Ehrlich will be screened on the day. Produced for the 20th anniversary of the Save Our Seas Foundation\, the film tells the story of sharks and rays\, of emotion and hope and the beauty of nature. \nFynbos Artisans \nVisitors can expect a fanfare of fynbos-inspired artwork\, ceramics\, fabrics and homeware. A number of fynbos-related interactive workshops will also be on offer. \nKids’ Activities \nKids can explore the FUNbos play area for a range of fun environmentally themed activities hosted by: \n\nFUNDAfynbos\nShark Spotters\n SergeOne\nButterfly Art Project\nCaptain Fanplastic\n Jungle Theatre Company\nNature Connect\n\nConservation/ Nature Organisations \nEnvironmental groups and hacking gurus will inspire you to take action and join in with the work that they are doing. \nFynbos-inspired Foods and Beverages \nThere will be fynbos-flavoured food to savour from local chefs added to a menu of traditional South African food\, pizza and burgers for all types of foodies. Expect to taste fynbos-infused gin and rum\, as well as a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Definitely something for all visitors’ palates. \nMusic & Entertainment \nLocal musicians will provide vibey tunes for the day! \nKeeping us entertained and informed throughout the festive day will be the one and only CraigieChi Makhosi of UBuntu Bridge. \nSponsorship \nWe thank ATIAN fynbos gin for their generous funding\, which has made this event possible. Visit the ATIAN stand at the Fair to taste their delicious fynbos gin cocktails! \nVeld Circles \nFynbosLIFE has created five Veld Circles which highlight the variety of fynbos vegetation types specific to these areas. In Muizenberg is the Zandvlei Strandveld Circle with Cape Flats Dune Strandveld [CFDS] plants. The Grootboschkloof Granite Fynbos Circle with Peninsula Granite Fynbos [PGF] plants is located at the Grootboschkloof Walk greenbelt in Constantia Hills. Recently created is the Doordrift Wetland Circle with Cape Lowland Freshwater Wetland [CLFW] species in the Doordrift Walk\, Plumstead. In Newlands is the Papenboom Forest Circle full of Southern Afrotemperate Forest [SAF] understorey plants. Lastly the newly planted Meadowridge Sand Fynbos Circle showcases Cape Flats Sand Fynbos [CFSF] at the Meadowridge Common. \nWatch this space for two more fynbos exploratory Veld Circles planned for next year. \nFynbosLIFE is currently working on three ecological restoration projects located at the Blaauwberg Nature Reserve\, Haasendal Nature Reserve in Kuils River\, and Tokai Park\, as well as rehabilitating a large stormwater retention pond in Mitchell’s Plain. \nDiscover the wonders of our fynbos.
