SUMMARY:The Big Biodiversity Challenge 2024 (Western Cape)
DESCRIPTION:The Western Cape Environmental Education Friends (WCEEF)\, together with members CapeNature\, SANBI\, Nature Connect\, SANParks and the Two Oceans Aquarium\, is thrilled to announce a new competition for children in grades 6 – 9. \nThe competition calls on students to submit projects that offer solutions to any of the many threats facing biodiversity. These solutions can take the form of a scientific project\, creative arts project\, or social project. The goal is to encourage critical thinking and creativity in addressing issues such as the unsustainable use of natural resources\, habitat destruction\, uncontrolled fires\, and climate change\, which all contribute to the decline of biodiversity. \nThe competition is open to all schools in the Western Cape and submissions can be made individually or in pairs. Participants will have the chance to win exciting prizes. \nAll students in grade 6 – 9 are encouraged to participate\, and it is recommended that teachers motivate their students to enter this competition and become part of the movement to protect biodiversity. SUMMARY:Western Cape Marine and Coastal Educators Network Conference
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you to the Western Cape’s 2024 Regional Marine and Coastal Educators Network (MCEN) Conference\, which will take place from 08h00 – 13h00 on Saturday\, 25 May 2024\, at the Two Oceans Aquarium. \nThe event is hosted by the South African Network for Coastal and Oceanic Research (SANCOR) in partnership with the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation\, the Centre for Conservation Education and the Save Our Seas Foundation Shark Education Centre (SOSFSEC). \nThe conference theme is “Ocean Inspiration – A Call to Action.” \nThis event includes a keynote address from a well-renowned marine biologist who now is part of a father-son duo communicating science in the digital space\, as well as stories from change-makers and locals involved in marine conservation. Towards the end of the conference\, there will be a chance to learn more about the turtle rehabilitation and wildlife management conducted by the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation\, as well as a networking opportunity for teachers and organisations. \nThere is the option to join us in person or virtually\, with live streaming available. \nThe event aims to connect teachers with organisations and changemakers that may be able to offer schools inspiration\, support\, outings\, and resources.
